The chances are that you probably own antibacterial cleaners, whether they are in the form of hand soap or cleaners for your kitchen and bathroom. But are these cleaners actually doing more harm than good?
It’s true that some bacteria can cause disease, illness and food poisoning. Many antibacterial cleaners promise to kill around 99% of bacteria, which helps to explain why they are so popular. After all, we all want to protect ourselves and our family from getting ill.
Unfortunately, antibacterial cleaners aren’t as good for us as they may seem. In the short term, their ingredients are known to irritate the skin (this is more of a problem with those that have been developed for cleaning purposes).
The FDA is currently looking into one of the major ingredients of antibacterial soaps: triclosan. Although the evidence isn’t yet clear, it suggests it may have a harmful effect on humans (especially children). In the past, the FDA has also stated that there are no extra health benefits to using antibacterial soaps over regular soap and water.

Another long term result of using antibacterial products is that they make bacteria more resistant. This means that, over time, these antibacterial products will no longer be able to kill the germs they set out to kill in the first place.
The truth is that you don’t need to make your home sterile to protect yourself and your family. Bacteria is all around us, and being exposed to small amounts of it is what our body needs in order to build up its defenses against stronger bacteria. Studies have shown that sterile environments in childhood can actually lead to more allergies and other problems later in life.
The American Medical Associated (AMA) has warned against extensive use of such antibacterial cleaners for these reasons. When it comes to killing germs, simple measures like washing your hands often (with traditional rather than antibacterial cleaners) are a good way to protect against germs.

1. Run with a Buddy - This really sunk in this weekend. When I don’t have to go to work, its so much easier to hit snooze on the alarm or hang out with the kids in our pajamas. I had friends to run with both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I couldn’t leave them hanging at 7am so had to get up!
2. Set a Goal - When I start running in the summer, I can’t just jump into running the whole way! I set goals for myself. For example, I start by running a mile and walk a mile or run two miles and walk half a mile building up as time goes. If you are running on the street go one mailbox or one house further the each day. Helps to build up your endurance!

3. Wear Good Clothes - I think its fun to dress up for my work-out at least a little bit. When you look good, you feel good. It’s the same as dressing up for anything else.
4. Stretch Before and After - It’s such an easy step to skip but so important! I wasn’t always a big believer but it actually makes a huge difference before and after my workout. Stretching also helps with soreness the next day.
5. Breath Out Loud - I know it sounds crazy but you have to remember to breathe! Sometimes, when I’m working hard, I tend to hold my  breath. Breathing out loud is a constant struggle for me! But again, it makes a big difference and helps you keep going!
These are great tips for anyone getting started running. If you have just started running or would like to start ask some of your fellow coworkers or friends that are runners what they do to be successful.

The good news about swimsuit fashion is that you can now mix and match tops and bottoms by size, color and print. Designers and manufacturers finally realized that not all women are created alike ? or proportionately — and you’re now able to select from a wide variety of styles.
Before you purchase a swimsuit this year, assess your body type. Then you can shop as an informed consumer, armed with knowledge that you know which swimsuit will most flatter your special shape and size. First, take a critical look in a full length mirror and decide which of the following body types you are and which style of swimsuit will enhance your figure:
Pear-shaped ? Your hips are wider than your shoulders. Choose a suit that will highlight the upper part of your body and play down the bottom. A solid color, dark bottom and a print top will give balance to your shape. Don’t select a suit with high-cut legs.

Inverted triangle ? Your bust is large and/or you have wide shoulders. Select a suit that minimizes your top and highlights a narrow bottom. Square necked suits tend to shrink large shoulders and color or prints on the bottom half of the suit will pull emphasis from the top portion.
Boyish figure ? Small bust and narrow hips define your shape. Choose a swimsuit that seems to add curves to your body. Any suit with ruffles and prints will make you look less boyish. A halter top (padded) or a tankini (bikini bottom and tank top) are also great choices for you.
Plus sizes ? You wear “women’s sizes” and don’t exactly fit the above body types. You’ll want to look for a swimsuit that contains a high degree of stretchy lycra. A suit that holds in your stomach is a plus ? and be sure you have enough support for your bust.
If you’re still uncomfortable parading around the pool or beach in nothing but a swimsuit, purchase a great cover up. Choose from sarongs, wraparound skirts, a long shirt or blouse.
Be sure you try on the swimsuit before you purchase it. Some stores and boutiques don’t allow returns on lingerie or swimsuits. You may suffer some uncomfortable moments in your search for the perfect suit, but persevere until you find the one that most flatters your body type.

Supa Dupa Greens
Handful (3 oz) spinach2 medium stalks (3 oz) of celerySmall handful (1/2 oz) parsley, long stems removed3 medium stalks (3 oz) green kale2 Bartlett pears, cored and quartered1 lemon, cut and peeled1 cucumber, cut into pieces small enough to fit through a juicer
Instructions for Supa Dupa Greens
Process all the ingredients through the juicer. Run any wet pulp back through the juicer. Scrape off the foam and serve over ice. For variation, add dandelion greens or watercress.

Early results from a comprehensive multi-site clinical trial demonstrated that the use of antimicrobial copper surfaces in intensive care unit rooms resulted in a 97 percent reduction of bacteria that cause hospital acquired infections.  This particular study also found a 40 percent reduction in the risk of acquiring an infection. Study results are to be submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for review and approval.

Initial study results were presented at the World Health Organization’s 1st International Conference on Prevention and Infection Control (ICPIC) in Geneva, Switzerland on July 1, 2011.
The study, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, was designed to determine the efficacy of antimicrobial copper in reducing the level of pathogens in hospital rooms, and whether such a reduction would translate into a lower risk of infection.
Researchers at the three hospitals involved in the trial, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, both in Charleston, replaced commonly touched items, such as bed rails, overbed tray tables, nurse call buttons and IV poles, with antimicrobial copper versions.

The reduction rate demonstrated on antimicrobial copper surfaces is the same as that achieved by “terminal” cleaning, the regimen conducted after each patient vacates a room.
Dr. Michael Schmidt, Professor and Vice Chairman of Microbiology and Immunology at MUSC, who presented the results at ICPIC, said, “Bacteria present on ICU room surfaces are probably responsible for up to 80 percent of patient infections, demonstrating how critical it is to keep hospitals clean. The copper objects used in the clinical trial lowered microbial levels and supplemented cleaning protocols.”
Hospital patients have a 1:20 chance of developing an infection, and those who do have a 1:20 chance of dying as a result. The CDC estimates that in the U.S., hospital acquired infections kill 100,000 people and cost $45 billion annually.
Independent laboratory testing has demonstrated that when cleaned regularly, antimicrobial copper products kill greater than 99.9% of the following bacteria within two hours of exposure:  MRSA, VRE, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and E. coli O157:H7.  For a complete listing of approved EPA public health claims for antimicrobial copper, please visit www.antimicrobialcopper.com. A better plan would be one that allows fruit juices and fruits and vegetables. As long as you’re eating something, you won’t be as apt to become discouraged and quit the fast. Fasting is the height of deprivation for some ? and a new-found friend for others. If you tell friends and family about the upcoming fasting plan you may have a different reaction than what you think. Some might warn that you’ll become ill or a number of other reasons that you should quit the fast immediately. Others may simply be skeptical of the process. Avoid negative comments and thoughts about the fast by keeping the plan mostly to yourself. If you follow these fasting tips and the instructions for the type of fast you chose, you should do well.

Prepare your body for the fasting process by cutting down on the amount of calories you consume. If you’re used to eating lots of fast foods, carbohydrates and sugar-laden foods, cut them drastically before the fast. Your body will be more ready to accept the nutrients and vitamins contained in your new diet. Also, avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine.
You’ll need a good juicer for a juice fast and then afterward for creating your own. Juices at the supermarket contain additives and preservatives that you won’t want to contaminate your newly-cleansed body. The same goes for fruits, vegetables and teas ? be sure they’re fresh and organically grown.
The most important of these fasting tips is to see your health care provider for a complete checkup before embarking on a fast plan or any other diet that might make your system react in a negative manner. To perform the Swiss Ball Saw with Hamstring Stretch, start by sitting up straight on a Swiss ball. Both feet should be flat on the fall, knees bent and in line with the ankles.

Hold your arms straight to your sides at shoulder level, palms facing forward. Rotate your upper body to the right. Straighten your right leg and reach your left arm towards your right foot. Bend forward from the waist. Sit back slowly, one vertebra at a time. Return to the starting position and repeat on the other side. This exercise targets the muscles on the abdomen, obliques and lower back. It also stretches your hamstrings.

The Swiss Ball Pyramid is another Pilates abdominal exercise that uses a simple device to provide a challenging workout. In this exercise, your body moves from a plank to a pyramid position. The ball challenges your balance and core strength because your lower body is being supported by this movable surface.

To begin, lie face down on the ball. Walk your hands forward until the ball is under your shins. At this point, your body should be straight from head to toe. Keep your arms perpendicular to the floor. Raise your hips toward the ceiling. The ball will roll slightly forward. Your body will now form a pyramid, with your hips as the top of the pyramid. Lower your hips back to the plank position to complete the routine.
